“Camry’s out” campaign

Posted: September 6th, 2006 | Author: dotblack | Filed under: Micro-Sites, UAE | 11 Comments »

A 1024 pixels wide microsite. It’s huge. It’s wide. It’s clean. It’s clear. The long awaited Camry is out. And it’s out in the middle east.

Camry's out campaign

This beast gets the message across clearly with clear typography and smart title and page divisions. However, it shows that it was designed by a non-Arabic speaker and the Arabization process was only translation. Although the type is clear it does not match the interface and it’s dynamism. This type of metallic platfrom works better with fonts that are curvier or straighter, and not the default/formal Arabic font.

A designer might be harsh on this microsite but a marketer would be happy with it. Indeed, it brings in results. Users can actually find information they seek. It’s usable! I love it.

It’s wide…clean…sweet…and comfy…you guys should also feel the drive. This is the best Camry yet…better than that big-ass one they made after 2000. I don’t know why it came so late to the Middle East but I got the chance to drive it in April…it won’t let you down. Trust me…Toyota sure are keen to get back at the Maxima and Accord, who have both been a step ahead of Camry for a while.

I booked a test-drive. I’ll let you know about it.

Great…enjoy the ride. Whoever designed the Camry microsite seriously ruined the mood for everyone with that font.

On a second note, check out what appears to be spy shots of the new Landcruiser or Prado. Somehow doesn’t appeal to me…

I checked it out in the festival city showroom. they still don’t have the v6.

BTW, you featured the American Camry website before this one, you guys noticed how different they are. Different ways of interactive marketing ey?

Sam, I hope that ain’t the Cruizer, the rims are more like Fortuner’s right? looks like Prado but still has some of Cruizer’s features. That’s ugly. I received a spy shot in March, it looked bigger and it looked something like Escalade, puffed up.

Anil, the American website is different, that’s because Toyota agents are different everywhere and different agencies do the work in different locations based on audience. But the site is a huge success even though it’s somehow not good looking

Dot I had the same feeling but when the autoblog site mentioned L.Cruiser spy shots…I my heart sank. That’s an ugly excuse for a car…even uglier than the Nissan Patrol. Do you have a link to the spy shot that you recieved in March?

    Sam,

Here’s the shot that I received back then, now that I’m looking at it, it is actually kindda’ close to the one seen on autoblog. Here we go,

    And another Japanese shot:

BTW, the 2007 model that is released over here is the same old LC with very little changes. I’m missin’ something over here.

Yea…it now hit me as I’ve seen it before but from a different angle. This new cruiser might have a few extra interal gadgets but it’s looks don’t look like they’ll win many hearts. But then again…this is the Middle East…where Landrcruisers will always be a favorite no matter how ugly.
